I am a senior, retired and living in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. I have 4 adult children and 4 grandchildren.

Some might say that I am obsessed with healthy eating and BMI. They are right! That’s why I started my first blog at:

I am happy that I did it. I did a lot of research. I kept track of ideas using information technology (WORD, EXCEL, WordPress). You might say I am analytical. That’s why my first job in 1963 was as a systems engineer at IBM just when business computers were being introduced.

Three careers later, I am retired, but still learning. I like … no, I love … to learn. Some say I am too theoretical. Those who know me well probably remember me stressing “depth and breadth”, “spectrum”, “meaning”, “purpose”, and willing to discuss things, unfortunately sometimes for too long.

What’s next?

For a while it may be blogs. I’d like to share what’s worked for me. My first target audience is my family, first the immediate bunch, then the extended group, and finally anyone else who is interested.

I like strategic thinking. I like to implement based on a plan. I like to innovate or come up with new ways to do something “useful” to me. This blog is my way of sharing what I’ve learned … my first post will be Rule 1.

Where did these rules come from? Albert Einstein said it best:

“If I have seen farther than others, it is because I was standing on the shoulders of giants.”

As I struggled with trying “to be the best that I could be” in my family and professional life, I read a lot. These are my “giants”

This blog is a work in process. The posts started out with the rules in sequence. Then “Postpone gratification” was added to the end as Rule 19. That bothered me. In my post “Re-numbering of Rules” I explained why I changed the order. The page “Summary of Rules” has been updated to reflect the new sequence.

If you are really interested in various ideas to living effectively you should start with the first post or “1. Set Goals.”

I stumbled upon your blog while looking for Diana Baumrind’s parenting styles. I’m a fairly new mother and a future teacher. These days, I am always on the lookout for great “life advice.” I am finding your blog to be an invaluable source for wisdom. I aim to read it daily, as a morning coffee to start my day with positive thoughts. Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge.
